Matamoros accident

This hideous accident occured outside Matamoros, Mexico, when a driver fell asleep at the wheel and collided with a group of cyclists.

The state of Michigan is installing rumble strips along 5,700 miles of two-lane rural roads to avoid such accidents. The strips are designed to alert drivers who drift across the centers of roadways or off the road shoulders.

“With the strips in place…, state officials anticipate preventing 300 crashes and sav(ing) 15 lives annually,”reports the Sagniaw News. The project, to be completed in the next three years, will cost $8 million.

A study by Texas A&M university found that rural T-intersections were especially hazardous; the A&M study recommended placing left turn lanes and rumble strips at these locations.
