Rule Change Will Reduce School Funding

<img src="/files/u2/schoolbus125.jpg" title="school bus" alt="school bus" align="left" height="83" hspace="3" vspace="3" width="125" />There have been several stories out in the last month about a proposed Medicaid rule change proposed by the Bush administration. (<a href="http://www.sacbee.com/111/story/392837.html" target="_blank">Here </a> and <a href="http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2007/10/21/news/top_stories/19_30_6110_20_07.txt" target="_blank">here</a> .) The federal government is proposing to stop using Medicaid money for a variety of non-medical programs in the schools — including the transport of disabled students. California alone would lose $100 million. The Rural School and Community Trust <a href="http://blog.ruraledu.org/" target="_blank">says</a> comments on the proposal will be accepted through Tuesday.
