There are still a few votes uncounted, but we wanted to bring you a state by state accounting of the presidential contest.
Below is a chart showing the vote in the rural, urban and exurban counties in each state. Rural counties are nonmetropolitan, according to the Census. Urban counties are metropolitan. Exurban counties are metropolitan but they have about half their residents living in rural settings.

The most Democratic rural residents are in Hawaii, Vermont and Massachusetts. The most Republican are in Utah.
Also, notice that the Republican vote in exurban counties is nearly always higher than in rural counties.
