[imgbelt img=arkansasfloodjeep150.jpg]At least 17 people have died and scores more are missing, after a flash flood early Friday morning in SW Arkansas.“The Caddo and Little Missouri rivers — two normally gentle waterways — rose by 20 feet overnight, engulfing the hikers and campers who were spending the night in tents along the rivers in the isolated Ouachita Mountains.”CNN reported that the campground registry was washed away, so no one’s sure how many people had been at the Albert Pike campsites Thursday night.According to AP, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning around 2 a.m, but state officials told the New York Times that the hilly terrain and lack of cellphone service in the valleys made communications difficult. The state of Arkansas is operating a call center for those with information on possible missing people: 888-683-2336. The call center will be open Saturday open until 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m Sunday.
