[imgbelt img=signatories-office-of-rural.jpg]Pennsylvania’s “G.T.” Thompson, Tom Perriello of south-central Virginia, Adrian Smith of Nebraska and 38 other Congressional representatives have asked President Obama to create an Office of Rural Policy.Last month, the new administration announced that an Office of Urban Affairs would concentrate on city issues. This week, 41 bipartisan members of the Congressional Rural Caucus voiced their hope that Obama would likewise set up a special department to address “the unique policy matters faced in rural America.” The signers specified agriculture, conservation, economic development, education, health care, information technology, and transportation infrastructure as key rural issues.According to Rep. Thompson’s office, the Rural Caucus presently includes 68 members. So why did only 41 folks sign on the letter to the president? Here’s a pdf of their petition with all the signatures.
